A fleet of changes, not just a new fleet

Northern's largest modernisation programme in a generation is transforming every step of your journey.

This includes making it even easier for you to buy tickets and find great value fares. Our stations are becoming more accessible, safer and ultimately better places to be. There's every chance you've already boarded one of our state-of-the-art new trains and we're constantly improving the frequency and journey times of our services. And that's just the beginning...

New trains, upgraded journeys

The £500 million investment into 101 new, state-of-the-art trains translates to markedly better journeys for our customers. We currently have 33 of our new trains in customer service with driver training taking place on dozens more trains right now.

Over one million customer journeys have already been made on-board our new trains, where customers can enjoy more comfortable seats, totally free WiFi, plug sockets at every seat and more accessible carriages.
